Jetstar Pacific and VietJet Air reported the highest delay rates in December among Vietnam's four airlines, according to the country’ civil aviation authority (CAAV).
In a first-half report released by the agency in July, both airlines came in as the most-delayed.
This time, Jetstar and VietJet reported delay rates of 30.6 percent and 18.9 percent, respectively,
Vietnam Airlines’ ranked third with 12.4 percent in the latest report, while Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO) had the lowest rate of 2.6 percent.
The airlines reported a total of nearly 15,300 flights in December, 15.7 percent of which were delayed and 0.8 percent cancelled, CAAV reported.
Flights were put off mainly due to late aircraft arrivals.
The few cancellations were attributed to bad weather and technical problems, according to the agency.
CAAV Chief Lai Xuan Thanh told Vietnam News Agency that the aviation sector’s rate of flight delays and cancellations in the second half was down 14.4 percent from the first half.
The rate recorded in the whole year was 19.3 percent, almost equal to that of 2013, although the airlines increased the size of their fleets, the agency reported.
The Vietnamese sector continued to be clear of air crashes last year, but 311 incidents, including technical problems, were reported, up nearly 171 percent from the year before, it said.
A total of more than 50.5 million passengers, 34.5 percent domestic, were reported at airports around the country, a 14.7 percent year-on-year increase.
