Vietnam teen boy faces charges for allegedly raping, killing schoolmate
By Thanh Nien News -
Prosecutors in Ho Chi Minh City have filed charges against a 17-year-old schoolboy accused of raping and killing a 13-year-old girl, local media reported Friday.
According to prosecutors, the crime took place at a hotel room in Ho Chi Minh City on July 22, when the accused was staying with other schoolmates, including the victim.
They had returned from a trip in Singapore with a group of teachers, and stayed at the hotel before flying back to their hometown in the central province of Quang Binh.
Prosecutors said when the group was getting ready to check out and head to the airport, the accused told a teacher that he lost his passport.
He then asked for permission to bring the victim to his room to help him find it.
When the girl came into the room, the boy allegedly offered to buy her an iPad, as she lost hers in Singapore, but she turned him down.
When she was leaving, the accused dragged her to the bathroom and assaulted her, prosecutors said.
He strangled her until she passed out and then raped her, prosecutors said.
As the boy did not come out and refused to open the door, the teachers asked the hotel's staff to unlock it. They then found the girl lying unconscious in the bathroom.
The accused managed to flee when everybody was trying to save the girl, who died the next morning.
He was arrested on August 1 while hiding in his hometown in Quang Binh.
