Man to serve life for killing his wife over divorce request
By Thanh Nien News -
An appeal court in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday upheld the life sentence on a man who stabbed his wife to death after she asked for a divorce to stop suffering his physical abuse.
Pham Phu Tinh, now 65, was convicted of murder for fatally stabbing his wife in Tien Giang Province last year, local media reported.
According to the indictment, after having seven children, his 37-year wife started refusing to have sex with Tinh in 2012, citing medical reasons.
But he believed that she was having an affair.
He started to scold and beat her every day after drinking a lot of wine.
In 2013, she asked for a divorce and went back to live with her parents.

On June 4th, 2014, Tinh decided to come to his wife’s parents and kill her.
He brought his gardening knife.
When he arrived, his wife’s father was persuading her to finish the divorce procedure, Tinh rushed into the house and stabbed her multiple times in her head and body until their son threw a chair at him.
The 63-year-old woman died with 18 stabs.
The first instance court in his hometown Tien Giang Province in southern Vietnam sentenced Tinh to life last November.
He appealed, saying that he has a mentally ill daughter to take care of.
But the judge at the appeal court turned down his plea, saying his act was brutal and was provoked by selfish demand.
