Beached whale returned to the sea in northern Vietnam

Rescuers transporting the 3-ton whale to the canal

Rescuers released a three-ton beached whale back into the sea in the northern province of Quang Ninh Tuesday.

The whale, which is around 7.5 meters in length, was found on Nam Hai beach on Co To Island by a fisherman named Nguyen Van Nam at around 7:30 p.m. the same day.

Nam said the whale appeared to be totally healthy at that time.

After Nam informed local authorities of the news, hundreds of locals gathered on the beach to witness the rescue.

Heavy rains made the work more difficult for rescuers, who dredged the beach to form a canal leading to the sea and dropped the whale into the canal.

The whale found its way to the sea within two hours.
