Errors found in Vietnam's new Penal Code
By Thanh Nien News -
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee has requested an urgent vote to defer an amended version of the Penal Code after finding many errors in the legislation, only days before it is set to come into effect.
The 2015 Penal Code, scheduled to apply on July 1, has been found to contain around 90 errors, which could create many practical problems, local media reported.
For example, two articles set different jail terms, of up to 10 years and up to 15 years, for the same crime of possessing 25-75 kilograms of cannabis.
The Penal Code was passed by more than 84 percent of the country's lawmakers in November last year.
Now top legislators are seeking to delay it until July next year.
The deferment voting result will be announced on June 30, according to National Assembly General Secretary Nguyen Hanh Phuc.
